Prof Dr Haider Darain

Prof Dr Haider Darain who is the first ever professor (Physical Therapy) in public sector university in the country, is working as Dean Allied Health Sciences Khyber Medical University, Peshawar. He completed his PhD in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2015. His PhD program was fully sponsored by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan under faculty development project ‘Development of Khyber Medical University, Peshawar’. He became the first ever HEC approved PhD supervisor in physical therapy in the country in 2016. He did his MSc (Health and Physical Education) and BS (Physical Therapy) from Karachi University, Karachi with distinctions.
Prof Dr Darain started his career as a physical therapist for children with disability, however, soon after he switched over from clinical work to teaching and research and remained in teaching and research until now. He has been teaching research methods and evidence-based practice to physical therapy students. He has supervised more than 40 students at MS level and remained external examiner for 20 PhD students. He is currently supervising 8 PhD scholars at KMU Institute of Physical medicine and Rehabilitation. He is actively involved in publications both at national and international levels and has more than 70 publications to his credit. He is member of Pakistan Association of Medial Editors and Chief Editor of Annals of Allied Health Sciences which is official journal of Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The journal is HEC recognised journal. Apart from clinical, research and teaching experiences, he remained in administration for almost 10 years. He introduced new undergraduate programs (BS Occupational Therapy and BS Speech and Language Pathology, BS Audiology and BS prosthetics and Orthotics) at Khyber Medical University Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation which were not offered in the province before.
