KMU-IHS Islamabad Sports Week 2024: A Celebration of Athletic Excellence and Cultural Heritage

The Khyber Medical University-Institute of Health Sciences (KMU-IHS) Islamabad held its annual Sports Week from 23rd April to 27th April 2024, offering a wide range of exciting activities that fostered camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students. This event took place across various venues in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, providing a platform for students to showcase their athletic skills and enjoy a break from their rigorous academic schedules.

Day 1: 23rd April

The Sports Week kicked off with an opening ceremony from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Ground/Hameedi Hall Sports Complex. Following the ceremony, the day was packed with various sports events:

  • Volleyball at 11:30 am in Hameedi Hall Sports Complex
  • Races and Jumps for Boys at 12:30 pm in the Sports Complex Ground
  • Table Tennis (Boys/Girls) at 12:30 pm in the Sports Complex
  • Tug of War at 12:30 pm in the Sports Complex Ground
  • Races for Girls at 12:30 pm in Rhodam Hall Ground Sports Complex
  • Badminton for Girls at 12:30 pm in Rhodam Hall Sports Complex
  • Dodge the Ball for Girls at 12:30 pm in Rhodam Hall Ground Sports Complex

Day 2: 24th April

The second day saw the commencement of the cricket matches at Jaamia Cricket Ground Rawalpindi, running from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Concurrently, indoor games like Luddo for both girls and boys took place at 12:30 pm in Sec A Hall and Sec B Hall, respectively, at KMU IHS Islamabad.

Day 3: 25th April

Day three continued with cricket matches from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm at Jaamia Cricket Ground Rawalpindi. The Luddo competitions for girls and boys were also held again at 12:30 pm in Sec A Hall and Sec B Hall at KMU IHS Islamabad.

Day 4: 26th April

The penultimate day featured more cricket matches from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Badminton for boys was scheduled from 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm, while a football match took place at 12:30 pm.

Day 5: 27th April

The final day of Sports Week culminated with the cricket final match held from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Jaamia Cricket Ground Rawalpindi. This was followed by a grand closing ceremony from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the same venue, which later moved to the Art Council Rawalpindi for a formal conclusion.

The closing ceremony was graced by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, who praised the participants for their enthusiasm and commended the organizers for a well-executed event. His presence added a prestigious touch to the event, celebrating the students' hard work and dedication throughout the week.

Additionally, the closing ceremony featured a vibrant cultural night, highlighting the rich heritage and diversity of Pakistan. Students performed traditional dances, music, and showcased various cultural exhibits, adding a colorful and festive atmosphere to the evening. This cultural night not only provided entertainment but also reinforced the importance of cultural awareness and appreciation among the student body.

KMU-IHS Sports Week 2024 was a resounding success, providing students with memorable experiences and highlighting the importance of sports and physical activities in their holistic development. The addition of the cultural night made the event even more special, celebrating both athletic and cultural excellence.
